SACRAMENTO — October 26, 2026. Families and commuters around The Met Sacramento High School at 810 V Street should prepare for changes to pedestrian and transit access as the city begins a new stage of its Vision Zero School Safety Project. Construction is scheduled October 26–November 6, including crosswalk, sidewalk corner and bus-stop improvements.
8th Street bus stop moving temporarily
The City of Sacramento says crews will install tactile warning surfaces at curb ramps, refresh road and crosswalk markings and rebuild the bus-stop waiting area. The 8th Street bus stop will shift temporarily closer to Victorian Alley during the work. Signs, barriers, cones and flaggers will help manage walking and driving routes; school trips may require a different approach to the bus stop.
Two more schools follow in November
The city lists William Land Elementary School for similar sidewalk, curb-ramp and crosswalk repairs November 2–17, while West Campus High School is scheduled for markings and a pedestrian median island near Fruitridge Road and 58th Street, November 9–24. These are separate locations and work windows, not a claim all three schools will be inaccessible.
Work is weather dependent. The school-safety improvements are funded in part by $1.7 million in federal Community Project Funding and $550,000 from the city’s Major Street Construction Fund. The city lists 916-245-0430 for project questions.
