SACRAMENTO — October 26, 2026. Drivers and residents of the Pocket–Greenhaven area face ongoing utility construction where Pocket Road meets East Shore Drive. The City of Sacramento is replacing a sewer manhole and roughly 50 feet of main pipe while repairing a roadway depression. Crews report groundwater complications requiring round-the-clock dewatering pumps.
Westbound traffic detour
The project has closed the westbound lane of Pocket Road between Greenhaven Drive and East Shore Drive as well as the East Shore Drive entrance onto Pocket Road. The originally posted detour routes westbound drivers along Greenhaven Drive, Rush River Drive, Lake Front Drive and West Shore Drive, before returning to Pocket Road.
City project updates dated October 19 said groundwater levels had slowed progress, with generators operating 24 hours a day and possible modifications to the westbound detour under consideration. That means old map screenshots may no longer match every field sign; motorists should use the current posted detour.
Why repair requires extensive excavation
Along with pipe replacement, the city is repaving the depressed section and drilling wells to manage groundwater. The department expects completion by late November 2026 but warns that weather and field conditions may affect timing. Work near occupied homes can cause noise and traffic changes; the page explains the need for continuous equipment without identifying an emergency spill.
Residents can follow the official Sacramento Utilities project update and report urgent utility concerns through the city’s 311 system. A construction schedule is not a confirmed date that the entire street will reopen.
