SACRAMENTO — November 7, 2026. Sacramento City Hall is showing Plantas de Poder: Kinships, Knowledges & Reclamation, a free public art exhibition examining relationships between people, plants and cultural memory.

Where and when. The exhibition runs through December 15 at the Robert T. Matsui Gallery, 915 I Street. The city lists free entry Monday–Friday, 8:30 a.m.–4:30 p.m., and says the gallery is wheelchair accessible.

Artists and materials. Emerging Curator Fellow Lorena Rodríguez selected work by Sacramento artists Jaime Lee Dempsey, Abayomi Brownfield, Esme Cabrera, Elizabeth Anne Bezark, Pablo Gomez and Rosalva Willow. Artworks include painting, photography, ceramics, printmaking, woodworking and natural-pigment media.

What visitors can learn. The exhibition examines the histories and traditions associated with seven plants including cacao, tea and coffee, rather than treating them solely as commodities. It is inspired by a research book on plant histories produced by seven women in Colombia. Visitors should view the exhibit through the city’s official program, which does not claim that every work is for sale.
