SACRAMENTO — November 7, 2026. The city is preparing an Urban Forest Plan Implementation Working Group and invites residents and organizations to help shape work toward a goal of 35% tree canopy by 2045.
Who may apply. The city welcomes neighborhood leaders, businesses, environmental advocates, community-based organizations, agency representatives and young people aged at least 16 with parental or guardian permission. A maximum of 20 public members is expected to be selected, with attention to neighborhood and demographic representation.
Information meeting and application deadline. The city schedules a public information session for Monday, November 9, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. at Hart Senior Center, 915 27th Street. Formal applications open November 9 and remain available until December 31. Advanced registration for the meeting is encouraged but not mandatory.
What working-group members will do. The panel is meant to collaborate with city staff on practical urban forest implementation, not replace City Council authority over budgets. Trees may help shade streets and improve neighborhood comfort, but proposed projects still require planning, funding and maintenance.
